Nour (not her real name) is an 11-year-old girl living with her family in an underprivileged neighborhood in Al-Hasakeh governate. Her family primarily relies on the income of her teenage brother, who works in an industrial zone. Unfortunately, after witnessing an act of violence, Nour had trouble sleeping, lost her appetite, and was too overwhelmed to communicate with anything but hand gestures.
To help address these issues, Nour’s mother sought help from an IOCC Family Safe Space, where she shared her daughter’s struggles with a case manager. After receiving an assessment, Nour was enrolled in group and individual counseling sessions, while her mother joined in parent/caregiver sessions. Thanks to this counseling, Nour gradually improved and began to express herself with confidence, even expressing her desire to receive greater education.
“My daughter still lived with the memories of the past, manifesting as sadness and unjustified crying because of what she had witnessed,” Nour’s mother said. “I came to the Family Safe Space following the advice of a relative, and today I never stop recommending it to others. I tell everyone about the center’s dedicated and compassionate services.”
