Children who have lost parental care due to conflict in Ukraine are finding safety and stability in foster homes in the country’s west through a national caregiving program. After being displaced from eastern Ukraine themselves, Yurii (not his real name) and his wife opened their home to foster ten children, motivated to support them as they face uncertain futures and provide a safe and loving home. However, dealing with the consequences of displacement themselves, they lacked essential appliances and furnishings.
Thanks to a generous donor, IOCC was able to furnish and equip three foster homes, including Yurii’s, with essential items such as refrigerators, washing machines, beds, tables, and other household furnishings. Now, the children have significantly improved living conditions as they begin to rebuild their lives and heal.
“The home is now equipped with a fully functional kitchen that allows us to prepare nutritious meals properly for the children, tables that enable them to study and complete their homework, and adequate laundry and drying facilities that ensure proper hygiene, cleanliness, and overall well-being,” said Yurii. As the children grow, these gifts will continue making a difference for years to come, helping these families focus on what matters most: providing children with the comfort and sense of home they deserve.
